Introduction

In this guide, we will be changing the spark plugs on a 5th-generation (1992-1996) Ford Bronco.

For this replacement, all you will need is a 5/16" and 5/8" wrench. While it can be done with just standard wrenches, a socket wrench will make the process much easier and faster, and a ratcheting socket wrench more so.

Additionally, we recommend letting the vehicle sit with the engine off to cool for a while before performing the actions in this guide.

    • First, go inside the driver's door and down to the left, as shown in the picture, and pull the latch away from the pedals.

    • Then go around to the front of the vehicle and locate the latch in the grill.

    • While slightly pushing down on the hood push the latch to the left and then push the hood up.

    • Locate the fasteners that hold the intake hose in place.

    • Using a 5/16" wrench remove all 4 bolts on the fasteners.

    • Grab the hoses at the fasteners and pull away from and off of their respective slots.

    • Looking at the right and left side of the engine you should see the 4 spark plugs per side in these locations.

    • They will be covered as you see the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are in the second image.

    • *We recommend uncovering and changing one at a time to ensure each wire goes back on the correct spark plug.*

    • To uncover the spark plugs grab the wire at the end covering the spark plug and pull away from the spark plug.

    • Using a 5/8" wrench loosen and remove the spark plug.

    • Insert the new spark plug in the same spot.

    • Start by hand tightening. *A good idea is to lightly push in and turn the spark plug to the left or counterclockwise until it drops into the grooves and then hand tighten to the right or clockwise to prevent cross-threading.*

    • You can then tighten a bit more with the 5/16" wrench.

    • Finally, reattach the spark plug wire by slipping it over the new spark plug and pushing it on.

    • Put the air intake hose back with each end of the hose over its 2 respective slots.

    • Put the 4 bolts back onto the fasteners and tighten the hose back in its place.

    • Close the hood and the replacement is finished.
