Introduction
In this guide, we will be replacing the spool on the Abu Garcia Black Max bait casting reel.
The typical spool on a bait casting reel should last an extremely long time and does not need to be typically replaced. On the other hand, if you use your reel in salt water without proper maintenance, the spool could corrode.
This guide will begin with the removal of the spool, following a few simple steps, then taking the old spool and replacing it with the new spool. Finally, we will reassemble the reel back together.
If you have found your spool to be damaged, corroded, or just want to switch it out with a new spool, this guide is for you.

Take the black pin and apply pressure, pushing the pin to the left until it cannot go further.
-
On the right side of the reel, pull the side panel towards you until it pops up toward you.
-
-
-
Grab the spool with your fingers, and gently pull out the spool from the reel.
-
Grab your replacement spool and have it ready for the next step.
-
-
-
Take your replacement spool and put the spool back inside the reel, the same way you pulled out the old spool.
-
-
-
Make sure that there are no spaces in the left and right sides of the spool once the new spool is in.
-
-
-
Pull the pin to the left again.
-
Place the black side panel back onto the reel.
-
Once the black side panel is back on, apply downward pressure, pushing the black side panel back, until it clicks into place.
-
-
-
You have now done a complete spool replacement on the Abu Garcia Black Max baitcasting reel.

When you decide, you can now put the line back onto the spool.
