Introduction

The motor is the most important part of the DC56. If the vacuum stops working completely you could need to replace the motor.

Tools

Step 1

Make sure the vacuum is unplugged from charger.
Warning: Avoid pressing red trigger because the vacuum will turn on the device and begin suction.

3.5 hours yea right, hell no more like 6 mins fully charged if the max button is on it only last 3 mins

Step 2

Locate the purple button at the top of the device.

Separate the device with the purple button.

Step 5

Locate and remove the 10mm Phillips head screw using a Phillips #1 screw driver.

You also have to remove the screw at the top on the back where the motor is. Otherwise, the battery will not come out!

Step 6

Locate and remove #000 25mm phillips screw on the reverse side of the vacuum

Same experience. Tried WD40 in hopes it would release but no luck. Had to use a very thin flat blade screwdriver to wedge the crease (on one the side of the handle by that screw) and simultaneously whack away at the base of the battery with a pair of channel-lock pliers, brute force. There is the risk of possibly breaking the plastic white handle as you try to wedge the thing open enough to pull the battery out. Very poor design in the replaceability department. I had already ordered a battery, so I would advise trying to remove existing battery FIRST (to make sure you can get it out without damage) before ordering a new battery,

If you could make screw rotate, keep spin it. Even though you feeling no screw is coming out. Just keep make rotate. It eventually comes out. It is pretty long screw compare to the one the other side. I almost give up but tuns out success finally.

I have been trying to remove the second screw too. I understand it is longer than the first. I've been trying for 2 days now. Very frustrating!

Step 7

Pull the battery pack down and away from the main body and remove it from the device.

Step 8

Take out the 10mm screw using a Phillips #1 screwdriver.

Step 9

Use a spudger to separate the back plate covering the motor.
Be careful when trying to remove the motor with a metal spudger. Be sure your battery is removed before trying to fully remove the motor.

That’s impossible for me. As much force as two hands on the tool still won’t crack that seal…looking at that picture with a thumb and finger’s amount of pressure makes me think that you are Superman.
