Introduction

This guide will show you how to change the light bulb in a Harbor Breeze Fan with a glass dome. This particular model is the Lake Canton Model #41705. I have completed a similar repair myself four times with three different fans.

This repair requires working with your hands above your head for the duration of the repair and likely requires using a ladder or a step stool. If you have issues with dizziness or balance, it may be best to have someone else do it for you. Be careful when working on a ladder; ensure that it's secure, and if possible, have someone hold it steady. Additionally, it is recommended to have an assistant to provide an extra set of hands. Having someone assist you will make the process easier and safer, especially if it's your first time attempting the repair.

Before you begin, turn off the power to your Harbor Breeze fan and light.

    • Turn off the power to the fan and light before you begin to avoid injury.

    • Twist off the cap that holds the glass dome still.

    • Slide the hardware covering the glass and allow it to hang on the end of the pull chain.

    • Twist off the bolt that holds the glass dome up.

    • After this, it is helpful to have a second person. If you let go of the dome, it will fall and possibly break.

    • Until you screw the bolt back on, make sure you have someone holding the dome in place.

    • You are working with a glass dome. If the dome drops it could break. Glass shards can cause injury.

    • Slide the dome back in place to cover the light bulbs.

    • Replace the bolt to secure the dome.

    • Once the bolt is in place and the dome secure, you can let your arms rest.

    • Don't screw the bolt too tightly. If you do, you may crack the glass. You also need to be able to rotate the dome in place.

    • Rotate the dome until the fan cord aligns with the hole correctly. Try pulling on it to test. You will need to twist the dome until it lines up correctly.

    • If you don't hear a click, it is tangled.

    • Realign the hardware at the base of the glass dome and and screw the cap to secure.

    • Check that all of the holes align with the fan cord. Pull the cord to confirm you hear a click.

    • If necessary, rotate and work with the chain to untangle it.

Conclusion

You now have all the information to replace your own ceiling fan lightbulb. While a few things may differ for different brands, the general idea should be the same. I hope this was a helpful experience for you, enjoy your light!
