Introduction

This guide will show you how to safely remove corrosion from a 2005-2009 Ford Mustang battery.

Before you begin, the following are highly recommended:

    • Open the hood and prop it open using the hood prop.

    • Locate the battery.

    • Battery acid can cause skin corrosion. Wear protective face coverings, eyewear and gloves to prevent skin contact.

    • Using the 8-mm socket wrench, disconnect the battery terminals.

    • Disconnecting the terminals in the wrong order can damage the battery.

    • Disconnect the negative terminal first.

    • Disconnect the positive terminal second.

    • Keep the negative terminal far away from the battery post once it is disconnected to prevent battery damage.

    • Wait for the spray to change colors.

    • Repeat steps 5-6 until the corrosion is no longer visible.

    • Scrub the battery terminal posts using the battery brush.

    • Apply the terminal grease onto the new washers.

    • Place the new washers onto the battery terminal posts.

    • Reconnect the terminals to the battery posts.

    • Reconnecting the terminals in the wrong order can damage the battery.

    • Reconnect the positive terminal first
