Introduction

Replacing your windshield washer tank can help ensure proper visibility when driving by maintaining a reliable supply of washer fluid. If yours is leaking, cracked, or otherwise damaged, consider swapping it out for a new tank to keep your windshield clear and safe.

    • Gather a socket, extension, ratchet, needle-nose pliers, flat-head screwdriver, trim tool, flashlight, bucket, and safety gloves.

    • Ensure the vehicle is turned off and properly secured before removing the battery.

    • Disconnect the negative battery cable then the positive cable to remove the battery.

    • Unbolt and lift the battery tray out of the engine compartment to access the washer tank area.

    • Remove or loosen the fasteners on the inner fender so you can pull it back and reach the washer tank.

    • Avoid removing the wheel if possible by carefully maneuvering the fender liner.

    • Disconnect the hose leading to the wipers and drain the washer fluid into a suitable container.

    • Dispose of or recycle used fluid responsibly in accordance with local regulations.

    • Locate and remove the bolts that secure the washer tank to the support and fender area.

    • Unplug the low washer fluid sensor and washer pump connector from the tank.

    • Carefully lower and pull the old washer tank from the engine compartment without spilling fluid.

    • Separate the pump and sensor from their grommets and remove the mounting nuts for transfer to the new tank.

    • Seat the sensor and pump gently into their new grommets and secure the mounting nuts on the replacement tank.

    • Position the new washer tank where the old one was removed and align it with the mounting holes.

    • Attach the washer hose and plug in the pump and fluid sensor connectors on the new tank.

    • Secure the new tank with the top and bottom bolts then reinstall the inner fender and battery tray.

    • Fill the new washer tank with fresh fluid and reconnect the battery to restore power.

    • Activate the windshield washers to verify the pump operation and check for any leaks.

Conclusion

With the new tank in place and fluid topped off, your windshield washers should function effectively. Always confirm there are no leaks before driving, and properly secure all components to ensure a safe and reliable installation.
