Introduction

laptop purchased with factory HDD installed. An SSD was installed later that is used for primary bootup and Operating system.

2025 march: Update BIOS due to Lenovo update tool recommend to do so.

Update into Bios Version : 5XCN26WW

Result: Laptop will not boot on SSD or even recognize Kingston SSD drive in laptop.

Tried numerous combinations of settings.

Recommended BIOS setup, that allow for using SSD drive.

  1. SATA controller: AHCI
  2. Intel platform trust technology: Enabled
  3. Secure boot : Disabled
  4. Set SSD as first boot device (boot order)

    • Press F2 on keyboard when laptop is just starting, and the lenovo logo is shown on laptop. To enter BIOS. tap multiple times with 1 sec. intervals.

    • Setup bios as follows:

    • Recommended BIOS setup, that allow for using SSD drive. * SATA controller: AHCI * Intel platform trust technology: Enabled * Secure boot : Disabled * Set SSD as first boot device (boot order)

    • Now SSD can be used for booting OS. Issue seems to be caused by BIOS update, before the update other settings worked fine for SSD booting.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
