One comment
Is there any way to disable the battery whitelist or otherwise get the device to work with 'unauthorized' external batteries as OEM external batteries are no longer produced by Lenovo or sold by any vendor including ifixit itself? I've had some that worked for close to a year now up until yesterday, when the laptop suddenly decided they are no longer official.

The big problem here is where to find a new internal battery. I wish I had some suggestions to make, and would welcome possibilities. Searching on the Lenovo parts site has not proved fruitful--if you've had some success, I'd be glad to hear of it! These are pretty good computers, and battery failure is the main thing sending them to the landfill.
