Introduction

Hello, my name is Kenneth Young, however my peers call me Kenny. I am a sophomore at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

Major and Education

I am currently enrolled in mechanical engineering here at UMass Dartmouth, as well as I am in the honors program. I find myself in mechanical engineering from my aspirations as a child to be an engineer, however, not knowing what track. I learned more about mechanical and how you can learn about electrical, aerospace, and other general mnufacturing from this track from one of my friends who was already enrolled. I am big into learning new skills and helping others with the knowledge that I have.

Aspirations

In terms of education, I wish to go into grad school for mechanical engineering after the completion of my undergraduate program. In terms of the long-term, I have some ideas, however, nothing concrete. If I could choose what I want to do, I would like to work with some of the government sub-contractors like Raytheon or Lockheed Martin, where they work on aircraft and defence mechanisms that have always intrigued me. Another possibility that I have considered was attending the FBI academy. Once again, having been something that has interested me since being a child.

For now, I will be using this as a way to work on and improve my technical writing skills and ability to assist others.

Skills

Some skills that I have are as follows:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office apps
  • Proficiency in Windows PCs and Operating System
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows software
  • Ability to troubleshoot PC hardware
  • Strong team skills
  • Ability to lead
  • Ability to divide work and work efficiently
  • Light knowledge in HTML

Repair Experinece

While I do not have a lot of repair experinece, I have played around with some things. A few times over I have had to open up my own computer and diagnose hardware issues to find out why the system would boot or POST. The issues I had found had been incompatible RAM for one, and a bad power switch for the other.

I have torn apart and rebuild two Nintendo 3DS systems in order to replace a screen as well as change the housing for them.

For more professional experince, I work a seasonal internship with my local school system in the IT department, and we have to go and replace parts within projectors and PCs as well as dignose problems within laptops, as well as replace broken parts.

Hobbies

In my free time I like to learn how to program in HTML, just for something to have in my back pocket. I play ice hockey which I have been at for about 14 years. I also like playing video games with my online friends as well as hanging out with my tangible friends and my two puppies.

Relation

This project can relate to me and eventually my professional career in a couple ways. One way is that it allows me to show ability to work in a team to create a guide for repairing and troubleshooting an item, communicating it effectively to the community. The second major way was partly mentioned, where this project can allow me to improve on my technical writing ability, which is highly necessary in the engineering workspace. I cannot wait to start on this and go along on the journey.
