Hello, I'm Madison Montalbo. I'm a software development student at Austin Community College who is interested in all things tech-related. My love for problem-solving and attention to detail drives me to explore and understand technology. I'm thrilled to be part of the iFixit community, where I can contribute skills and knowledge to help individuals to repair and maintain their devices. With a passion for sustainability and the belief that everyone should have access to technology, I advocate for repair culture and extending the lifespan of all products in our daily lives.

Aspirations

I hope one day to specialize in User Interface (UI) design to create intuitive and visually appealing interfaces that enhance user experiences. I want to remove barriers to technology adoption, and contribute to user-centric software solutions that simplify and enrich people's lives.

Repair Experience

When it comes to repairs, I have accumulated a wealth of experience, mostly in the realm of automotive maintenance. My first car was a '66 Mustang, a classic that required consistent attention and care due to its age. The maintenance demands of that vehicle taught me the importance of upkeep and provided me with a solid foundation in troubleshooting and addressing various mechanical issues. Additionally, I have owned three Saabs, which are no longer in production, making it challenging to find replacement parts. This situation forced me to search salvage yards for suitable parts. By observing and understanding how each part was originally installed, I gained valuable insights into the reassembly process. This hands-on method, rooted in practical experience, allowed me to develop a comprehensive understanding of automotive repairs.

I possess sewing skills that allow me to mend clothes when needed or alter them for a better fit. I’ve also fixed some holes on my shoes with a needle and thread before.

One of my most recent repair accomplishments was refinishing a table I acquired for free. The table's top was heavily scratched and seemed destined for the landfill. However, I took on the challenge and employed a combination of techniques to restore it. Using a scraper and a series of sanding levels, I removed the scratches and imperfections. Finally, I applied a fresh coat of stain, transforming the table into a stunning piece that looked as good as new. This project reinforced my commitment to repairing and repurposing items instead of discarding them, thereby reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

In conclusion, my diverse repair experience encompasses automotive maintenance, clothing repairs, and furniture restoration. These endeavors have instilled in me a deep sense of accomplishment and the ability to adapt to different repair challenges. I believe this background equips me with the necessary skills and mindset to engage effectively in the iFixit Fast Fix project, as it aligns perfectly with my passion for extending the lifespan of items through thoughtful repair practices.
