Hello there! My name is Yailene Rivera. I am currently a junior at Sam Houston State University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Homeland Security. Throughout my years of education, I was always open-minded to what my future could look like. I knew it was either between law enforcement or photography.
Although I was passionate about photography I saw it as more as a hobby and knew that I could further my education in learning about law enforcement. One of the main reasons as to why I did not see photography as a long term job is because I am the type of person who enjoys working as a team through tough situations. Photography was always a one-man job for me. Although I had already knew many of my strengths and weaknesses through taking pictures it was time for something new. After doing a lot of research in law enforcement I instantly gravitated to the DEA. My skills with law enforcement is still on going but the skills I have adapted through photography would help me long term.
Through photography I had gained the skills of working with people to get their photos to their satisfaction as well as identifying problems when editing pictures. A lot of the time my clients would want specific areas, certain angles, or even certain filters. When it came to identifying problems in photography I was able to learn on how to edit pictures whether it was because the photo came out too bright, dark, harsh highlights or high contrasts. A lot of this knowledge started from when I would travel out of the state/country. I have been to Mexico, Germany, Montana, Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma. So this type of travel has helped me to learn different ways on how to capture the perfect moments.
One thing about iFixit that I am excited for is diving a bit more into with my photography by showcasing a repair step by step through photographs.
