Hey there, my name is Emily! I am currently a junior transfer student majoring in Design with a minor in Sustainability in the Built Environment at UC Davis. I am particularly interested in the fields of interior and furniture design, but I do love all aspects of the design world. My passion for design arose from the central influence that my parents had on me as they would always work on home improvement projects throughout my childhood and continue to still look for new improvements wherever they can. Thus, I love decorating my room and do not mind getting my hands dirty in DIY projects. I aspire to have my own house one day where I am able to design every room and little feature to my style.
My dad has been the one to help me with most if not all repairs where handiness was required. Additionally, my grandma did not mind any repair or personalization help that I needed when it came to my clothing. I have practiced skills such as handiness and knowing how to sew from my family but never had to do them by myself. Now that I am away from home, I have had to re-learn these skills without the help of others. One of my proudest repairs was fixing my blinds in my apartment. One of the blinds had a tear so it could no longer be hung which was a problem because I did not have much privacy without this piece. To quickly fix the problem, I stapled the gap so that I could reattach the blinds and it functioned perfectly. I feel like this was more of a hack so I would like to discover ways to fully restore the appearance of the blinds.
