About Me
Hi there! I am Rebecca Arellano and I'm attending the University of North Texas in Denton as a first-time freshman. I've switched between several other disciplines over the years until ultimately deciding on Mechanical and Energy Engineering. Before continuing higher education, I worked for five years in the Navy as an Airframe Structural Mechanic on the P-8A Poseidon aircraft, so the experience inspired me to pursue the other side of aircraft design and maintenance. With this, I am hoping to help close the communication barrier between the designers and mechanics because I know firsthand how frustrating it is to come across a task that is almost impossible to complete due to some kind of limitation or design flaw.
What I hope to accomplish from this project is to learn how to communicate effectively with the people who use publications every day to complete tasks successfully and perform maintenance actions without running around and guessing what the next step is.
What I've Done
While working under Patrol Squadron NINE, I performed inspections and unplanned repairs on up to ten aircraft that were assigned to the squadron. I was also the program manager for the maintenance department's Respiratory Protection Program as well as the Corrosion Control Supervisor.
Maintenance Experience
- Performed 30, 90, 180, 360, 720, 1080-day interval inspections
- Replaced hydraulic engine-driven and electrical-driven pumps
- Replaced a nose landing gear lower strut
- Assisted in the removal and replacement of wing leading edge slats
- Contributed to the rebuild of an aircraft after being struck by lightning, resulting in it sitting without movement for more than a year
- Helped with the removal and replacement of the leading edges on the horizontal and vertical stabilizers of another squadron's aircraft after it flew through a hailstorm

- Collateral Duty Inspector for Airframe, Corrosion Control, and Line
- Plane Captain
- Hydraulic Contamination Control Technician
- Tire and Wheel Maintenance Technician
- Aircraft Paint and Final Finish qualified painter

What I Like
While living in Washington State, I developed an appreciation for nature's beauty as well as an admiration for the bustle of cities such as Seattle and Bellevue. I enjoyed exploring these places within the state, as well as in the countries we've been deployed to like Italy, Iceland, and Portugal. I love reading in my spare time with my favorite genre being between science fiction and mystery but sometimes I would occupy myself with scrolling through videos on social media or listening to music.
