Hello, my name is Andrew Cervantes. I am a student at Cal State Los Angeles (CSULA) majoring in civil engineering.
Academics and Goals
Growing up, I was always interested in how cities and all types of infrastructure were constructed. When I learned that civil engineers are in charge of completing this type of work I knew this was the path I wanted to take.
I will find a job in construction management or structural engineering when I graduate. My ultimate goal is to work on redesigning the collapsing infrastructure of local cities like Los Angeles and San Bernardino.
Some Skills
At University I have worked closely with the maker space workshop. Here I have learned how to use machinery such as band saws, mills, lathes, and other industrial machinery.
Apart from school, I am also working on becoming a chef. I work at a Japanese Restaurant as a sushi bar prep chef. Being a sushi chef requires a lot of skills one must develop which is why it is one of my goals. Overall I enjoy being in the kitchen and learning how to make new dishes and cooking techniques.
What I hope to learn
Usually, when something breaks at home I will try to fix it on my own. However sometimes an item is most likely replaced, I hope that with Ifixit I can use it to save resources at home and save money on paying for repairs or buying new products.
