About me
Hi everyone! My name is Kali Rossi, and I'm a student at the University of North Texas. I'm currently working towards getting my master's degree in professional and technical communication, but my bachelor's degree is in computer science. I chose to get my master's degree because I've always been a stronger writer than coder. During my big software projects in undergrad, I was relieved when I got to work on our design and requirement guides! I'm currently in my first semester back at UNT, and I couldn't be happier with the program. In the future, I'd like to be a technical writer, though I'm currently exploring areas such as content strategy and UI/UX design.
Projects
When I'm at home, I constantly see my dad doing repairs and woodworking projects. Growing up seeing an adult tackle every issue head on really engrained a sense of ingenuity within me. Now that I'm older, I've tackled a couple of projects that I'm really proud of. When I want something new, I'd rather thrift something older and fix it up or just make something myself. I'm passionate about sustainability, so making quality items or refurbishing old furniture is a skill I'd like to develop further.
I'm currently refinishing a table (current progress pictured) to hold my record player and some of my records. As you can see, it's definitely not perfect, but I think I like it better this way. So far, I've sanded the original paint off to reveal the wood underneath, and I've stained the wood a nice walnut shade. Next, I have to do a couple of coats of polyurethane to protect the stain and cut out a hole in the back for wires.
Additionally, I like to crochet. Although I haven't moved past crocheting various rectangles (scarves, blankets, etc.), I made a blanket that I'm really proud of. It's 100% wool, so it keeps me nice and warm when I'm reading in the winter.
Travel
In the future, I'd love to travel whenever I can. In the spring of 2024, I took my first solo trip to London, England. I had a great time exploring the city, going to museums (the Victoria & Albert Museum was my favorite!), and drinking lots of coffee. Fun fact: I had the best dirty chai (chai tea with espresso) of my life at Gail's London in Kensington. I still think about that chai sometimes when there's a chill in the air!
This image is a selfie I took at the Roman Baths in Bath, England. Going to Bath was one of the highlights of my trip. I loved being on the train and watching the English countryside go by. I hope I have the opportunity to travel more in the future. Some places I really look forward to going to include: Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, and Japan.
