Hello, my name is Daniel Martins. I’m enrolled at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, majoring in computer and electrical engineering. I chose these majors because I enjoy putting things together and want a secure future. My long-term goal is to work as an engineer and support my future family. To reach my goal I’m devoting myself to learning as much as I can, no matter the obstacle.
[One of many projects I've worked on in school.]
Throughout my academic journey, my toughest challenge was entering the engineering program with no prior knowledge. So far, I have learned the fundamentals, such as different coding languages, binary math, building circuits, etc.
Beyond academics, I am involved in multiple clubs such as the National Society of Black Engineers and the Caribbean Student Association. In my spare time, I like hanging out with friends, listening to music, and playing video games, which allow me to unwind and stay creative.
[PS4 controller's battery replacement.]
I’ve done simple repairs like fixing a PS4 controller (taking it apart and replacing its battery, but I’m eager to learn how to fix computers and gaming controllers. I was recognized with awards, such as the dean’s list, the same semester I entered the program.
As a first-generation college student, I have a lot of pressure to succeed and do everything I can to accomplish this goal. As I grow, I'm very excited to dig deep and continue to hone my skills.
