About Me

My name is Marcia Cardoso, and I am an undergraduate biomedical engineering student at the University of Massachusetts- Dartmouth.

I decided on my major pretty late in the game based off of the impact my senior year high school science teacher had on me. He was not only a wonderful educator, but his passion for new and innovative technological advancements in STEM fields inspired me to be a part of this fascinating world. Ever since becoming a student in my field, my eyes have been opened to all of the possibilities for biomedical engineers and it's what motivates my studies day in and day out.

Repair Experience

Although I do not have much personal repair experience, I have been the assistant to quite the handy man ever since I knew how to hold a screwdriver. From holding the flashlight while he works under my car, handing him the tools as he replaces a burst pipe, to screwing in the last bolts to our chicken coop, I have identified my dad as a super fixer. My expertise comes in when it is time to make our projects looks beautiful. Our newly renovated garden fence would not be complete without some beautiful daisies painted onto it.

Hobbies

Although I get very little free time as a working college student, any downtime is spent with my pets. I currently have a black lab, tuxedo cat, macaw, six hens, two guinea pigs, and a turtle. My favorite animals are horses and while I do not currently own any, I always enjoy riding and hope to have a few to call mine in the future.

Memberships

I am currently a collegiate member of the National Society of Black Engineers and hope to become a board member in the near future. My participation in this group has better prepared me for my future by offering programs such as interview and resume tips, networking opportunities, and allowing me to feel a sense of belonging in my major.
