Hello! I am a Junior undergraduate student pursuing Design at the University of California, Davis! I have always been someone who leans into the creative aspects of things, I get a lot of enjoyment and fulfillment from creating things with originality. In my education, I hope to soon design for smooth and comfortable human-centered functionality, whether designing architectural spaces or physical furniture products.
I dream of one day designing a full, fleshed-out furniture collection—something aesthetically pleasing, functional, and accessible while emphasizing the importance of sustainability.
As of right now, I consider my skillset very technical. By that, I mean if you are asking me to draft a floor plan, a scale diagram, or even a specification sheet with perfect, precise measurements and proportions, whether physically or digitally, consider it done. Drawings and scenes with organic shapes? Not so much, though I am working on it daily through my sketchbook! Other than that, while not having expertise, I have used and have a general understanding of many design programs such as Rhino7, AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to execute personal and educational projects.
I am proud of this model, which I first created in Rhino7 and then rendered in Illustrator. I did this alongside USC architecture professors as part of a brief summer program. I then Photoshopped this model to be part of a theoretical airport space.
I have never been one to break things; however, I do think that learning how to repair furniture or interior spaces would be a worthwhile skill in fulfilling my career goals.
With this being my first quarter at UC Davis as a Junior Undergraduate student, I have hit the ground running by involving myself in the opportunities presented to me on campus. I am a part of plenty of clubs on campus. However, I am most involved in two specific, those are “Associated Students in Interior Design” and “The Industrial Designer Society of America.” I see that in my involvement, I am able to derive skills that will greatly benefit my career.
Recently, in my spare time, I have been getting a lot more into carrying a sketchbook around with me. In high school and very early college, I was not very motivated. But in the last year, I have emptied my brain into about 200 sketchbook pages so far. This has benefited me greatly, and I see that skill only getting better with time because I have come to really enjoy it. Besides that, I enjoy caring for my 13 houseplants and trying new local coffee shops!
This project relates to me and my goals in the way that it prepares me for the “if” and “when” something breaks. I seek to design and create things. What significance does it hold if I can make it but cannot fix it? I see that through the effort I put in here, I have the potential to gain more experience in other facets of my personal and professional skills.
