• Hi there, I'm Yilin Chen, a second-year Design major at UC Davis passionate about creativity, crafts, and fixing things. I love hands-on work, and I’m always eager to learn more about how things work and how they can be fixed when they don’t work functionally. One of my current exciting career options is to be a toy designer one day. I have made stuffed puppies, rabbits, mice, and so forth either using or without patterns. I enjoy making custom toy plushies from scratch, which allows me to combine my interests in design and crafting. Bringing these little characters to life has been a rewarding, fun, and creative outlet. What is proudest is that I have a copyright for my toy design, wishing there would be more in the future.

  • From bikes and kitchen tools to all kinds of toys and plushies, I love the challenge of repairing and restoring items. Being immersed in the process of fixing makes me just concentrate but forget time. I have fixed a clock, toy plushies, a bike chain, a bike brake, my sewing machine, a shaky desk and a clothes hanger, a drawer pulley, a blinder in my apartment, a bunch of correction tapes, a dress of a ceramic doll, the buttons of my friend’s windbreaker, a broken lock on my case, and so on.
  • In my spare time, I enjoy being in nature like lying on the grass with music, playing the harmonica (though I'm just a beginner), cooking, baking, drawing, and playing with my toy plushies (Yes, I’m naive but they are really cute), and, of course, sleeping.

  • I’m here on iFixit to share what I’ve learned, pick up new skills, and hopefully connect with others who love fixing and creating just as much as I do. Looking forward to meeting fellow repair enthusiasts and diving deeper into the world of DIY fixes!
  • A fun fact about me: I was born in the Year of the Rooster, but I sometimes see myself as a rabbit because, like rabbits, my ideas tend to jump around.
