Background

The Sony TCM-450 is a cassette recorder for daily use. It was released in Japan. A similar device called the Sony TCM-450DV was produced in America and Canada, with the only difference being that the labels are written in English instead of Japanese. This is a series of releases made by Sony starting in 1968.

The Sony TCM-450 and 450DV use a Type 1 cassette. It could play at two different speeds. 2.4 cm/s and 4.8 cm/s. The device uses a voice recording that would only record voices heard but not when it did not hear any voices. The device was made portable to record anywhere needed.
