Background: 

The CE-300 was initially marketed primarily in Japan and the United States, quickly becoming a favorite for its warm, analog tone. Though discontinued later in the 1980s, it remains valued by vintage gear collectors and musicians interested in analog effects, as digital effects eventually became more standard. While it is generally durable, aging units sometimes exhibit issues in power-related components, typical of vintage equipment. Nonetheless, the CE-300 is well regarded for its reliable build and remains sought after in the used market for its unique sound quality.

The Boss CE-300 Super Chorus was released in 1984 to add chorus effects to virtually any electronic instrument – except for microphones - without the use of pedals. Boss originally released a device that operated similarly without the option to mount in a rack – the “Stereo Chorus”. The CE-300 also allows a pedal to be used at the same time if desired.

 The CE-300 can change the phases as well as the effects. Output A produces a “positive” phase, Output B produces a “negative” phase. Both outputs will produce sound with the chorus effect. If the chorus effect is not desired, the device comes with an Effect ON/OFF switch which will not mute the direct sound, just the effect. It also comes with a Direct Mute switch which will mute the direct sound, but not the chorus effect.

The device can be identified by the writing on the right side. The device has a blue “SUPER CHORUS” towards the middle, and white “BOSS CE-300" on the right-hand side. The device comes with mounts on both left and right sides for rack mounting.
